Fence materials compared
These are general trade-offs, not a ranking. Sun, sand and sea air test every boundary.
In sun and heat
- Wood
- Dries, fades and can split unless sealed.
- Steel
- Strong, but gets hot to touch. Rust can start where the coating chips.
- Aluminum
- Does not rust or rot, and is lighter than steel.
- Masonry wall
- Heavy and stable. Render and paint take the full sun.
Upkeep
- Wood
- Re-seal or re-stain regularly.
- Steel
- Touch up chips and repaint when the finish dulls.
- Aluminum
- An occasional wash.
- Masonry wall
- Repair cracks and repaint over time.
Privacy and look
- Wood
- Solid boards give privacy. Warm, natural look.
- Steel
- Slats give privacy, bars give an open view.
- Aluminum
- Slats, bars or panels in set colors.
- Masonry wall
- Full privacy, and a base for railings or gates.
Where it suits
- Wood
- Garden screens and privacy fences.
- Steel
- Gates and railings that need strength.
- Aluminum
- Fences and gates, including near the coast.
- Masonry wall
- Main boundaries and walls around the whole plot.

Fences, gates and driveway surfaces
Most projects combine more than one of these.

Boundary fences
Wood privacy fences, metal railings or slatted panels along walls and boundaries. Posts need solid footings, and boards need gaps to move with the heat.

Gates
Single or double gates, hinged or sliding, manual or motorized. Gate width follows your cars, and motors need power, a control box and safe stops.

Driveway surfaces
Interlocking pavers, poured concrete or stone setts. Pavers can be lifted and relaid, concrete needs control joints, and every surface needs falls to move water away.
Decisions to make before we start
A few choices change the price and the result. We go through them with you at the first assessment.

- How wide and how high?
- Gate width follows your cars, with room to turn. Height balances privacy, view and any community limits.
- Manual, sliding or motorized gates?
- Motors need power, a control box and safe sensors. Sliding gates need clear space along the wall. Swing gates need room to open.
- Which driveway surface suits your use?
- Pavers, concrete and stone handle weight and heat differently. Tell us about your vehicles, where you park and how much sun the surface gets.
- Where will the water go?
- A driveway needs a fall away from the house and somewhere for water to run. Washing cars and watering the garden both put water on it.
- What does your community allow?
- Many communities set rules for boundary height, materials, colors and driveway width. Ask first, and share them with us.
How a fence or driveway job runs
Fencing and driveway work follows our renovation process, from the first visit to handover.
- 01
Initial consultation and assessment
We look at the boundary and the drive: levels, slopes, drainage, existing walls and where cables or pipes run.
- 02
Designing and planning
You choose the material, height, gate type and surface pattern. We confirm footings, drainage, power for gate motors and any approvals.
- 03
Full renovation with expert contractors
Marking out and groundwork first, then posts, panels and gates, then paving or concrete, then paint and finishing.
- 04
Finishing touches and final inspections
Gates are tested for swing, latch and stop. Paving is checked for level and falls, and joints and edges are tidied.
- 05
Post-renovation cleaning and handover
We clear the site and show you how to look after each material. Customer satisfaction guaranteed.
Boundaries, driveways and approvals
Boundary walls, fences, gates and driveway changes affect the street and shared services, so communities often control them. New gates, wider driveway entrances, changes to curbs or boundary height can need approval from your developer or community, often as a no-objection certificate (NOC), and sometimes a permit from the relevant authority. Ask for your community's rules first. Permits and approvals are part of our support services, so we can take the paperwork on with you.

Fencing and driveway questions
Do you build wood fences?
Yes. Deck and fence construction is part of our carpentry work. For metal, masonry or other styles, tell us what you want and we confirm what we can build when we assess the site.
Which driveway surface handles Dubai heat?
Pavers, concrete and stone can all work. Pavers can be lifted and relaid if a pipe needs reaching, while poured concrete is one slab that needs control joints. Light colors stay cooler than dark ones.
Can gates be automated?
Yes. Sliding and swing gates can take motors, keypads and remote controls. We plan the power and cabling at the design step.
Can you repair a cracked or sunken driveway?
Yes. We find out why it moved, such as poor drainage or a weak base, then repair the base and relay or resurface the drive.
Do I get a price before work starts?
Yes. The estimate is free, with no obligation or upfront payment required. Before work begins we detail every step of the breakdown, so you know exactly what you are paying for and there are no hidden charges.
